CHAMPIONSHIP
Well, well, well. So we meet again! After a covid-shortened 12-week season, Brian and Colin have obtained their rematch in the championship round. The first time these two met was in the league’s inaugural year, causing quite a stir in how close the match became, as the winner was determined during the final moments of the final Sunday. After being eliminated in the post-season by Colin Sydejko a total of FOUR separate times in the first 5 years of the FKL, it was safe to say no one desired a finals victory over Colin more than Brian Crain.
And the league was rooting for him too, as they were sick and tired of seeing Colin’s name in the finals (a total of 4 appearances, including this time). “KICK HIS ASS!” “YOU HAVE US ALL ROOTING FOR YOU MITCH BITCH!” The truth was, Colin’s team struggled all season to stay near .500, finishing the regular season as the 6th seed (seeds 5, 6, & 7 all finished with 12 points to their record). This would only be the 2nd time in league history a non-bye-week team would appear in the finals; Suzuki of Van Nuys simply got hot late in the year, carrying momentum into the final round.
Brian’s story was quite the opposite, in fact, going 7-2-0 before finishing the regular season 0-2-1. But he had a fire in his heart, a desire for retribution, and of course, a passion for Bob Miller. Vengeance was strong within Brian, as he commanded the best goaltending ever seen in an FKL final. There was no doubt that Brian slept peacefully that night and for many weeks on end, as after appearing in every postseason thus far, he finally won his first FKL Championship.
