2015-16
The Inaugural Season
In 2015, the Fantasy Keeper League was born. Bringing with it the remaining members of a dysfunctional, broken league, the FKL was assembled with the intention of becoming one above the rest. Constructed of beer-league hockey teammates, co-workers, family members, school friends, 9 Los Angeles Kings fans and 1 Anaheim Ducks fan, they decided on a keeper system in which two players would be selected per team. This made the first year’s draft, perhaps, the most important of them all.

What the %#$@ just happened?! The 2015-16 FKL Playoffs taught us a lot about how to fine-tune our new league. Other than a couple small changes such as “re-seeding the 2nd round”, we committed the cardinal sin in the fantasy sports world by allowing our league championship to continue into the final week of the sport’s regular season; Superstars who had influence on relevant categories were healthy-scratched for injury preventiveness.
In a week when Brian Crain led the matchup from puck drop on Monday to the final hours of Sunday evening, Murphy’s Law struck: Asshole Shayne Gostisbehere threw a puck over the glass for a “delay of game” in the final seconds of the final game of the 2015-16 season, both creating a memory that will be lamented until we are all dead and handing the inaugural season’s championship to Colin Sydejko. In the end, the hockey gods thought it fitting that only the most cool and most handsome of commissioners should win the league’s first trophy.
